GUIDE FOR
VIRTUAL CAREER DAYS
7 STEPS - GET THE MOST OUT OF
VIRTUAL CAREER DAYS
Exploring different career opportunities and networking with employers is an exciting part of your study journey. This can be done by participating in physical fairs and events. However, in today’s digital era, virtual fairs have become popular and easily accessible. One example is VCD – Virtual Career Days. Below, we guide you through using this fantastic platform and share tips to make the most of your experience.
Virtual Career Days is an open platform year-round, with specific live days throughout the year. Live means that recruiters are live in the digital booths, and we stream lectures on that specific day. A few days each year, we host career/industry-specific fair days, and twice a year the fair is open to everyone! Imagine a large student fair, but virtual – so you can attend from the couch or wherever you are!
Step 1: Registration and preparation
Start by registering for VCD. Follow the instructions and make sure you have access to a stable internet connection for a smooth experience. You can also choose to easily register using your Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn account.
During registration, you will be asked a few questions about your education/work background, which will help match you with companies that are relevant to you
.
You can also add more information about yourself on your profile page and upload a CV, either directly or later. This will allow recruiters to learn more about you and process any applications you may have for internships or job offers during and after the fair. The more you fill in about yourself, the higher the chances that recruiters will notice you.
Some companies also offer the opportunity to book interviews during the live day. You can book these before the live day directly in the platform.
Don't forget to add the live day date to your calendar!
Step 2: LIVE day. Explore the exhibitors and companies.
When you log in to VCD, you will be greeted by a series of exhibition halls containing a variety of digital booths for the participating companies. Take the time to explore the different exhibition halls and learn more about the companies that interest you. Click through the booths, read descriptions, watch video presentations, and access informational materials, etc., that are available.
Step 3: LIVE day. Network with employers.
One of the advantages of a virtual fair is the opportunity to network directly with employers and speakers. Here, you can communicate with company representatives via chat, video calls, pre-booked interviews, or by scheduling meetings during the event. Be prepared with questions and show genuine interest in the companies you meet. Networking is an important part of building your professional contact list and can lead to exciting career opportunities in the future.
Step 4: Participate in seminars and presentations
At Virtual Career Days, you can participate in a variety of seminars and presentations that can be very valuable for your career development. During the seminars, you can listen to speakers, participate in discussions, and gain insights into different industries and professions. There are both live sessions and pre-recorded lectures. Browse through them before the live day to see which ones seem most interesting and add them to your calendar.
Step 5: Search among job offers
Here you can filter employers by the region of Sweden where you want to search for jobs and select your field of study. Jobs, summer jobs, internships, etc. are published and available for you to express interest in. Click through to the job descriptions to learn more about the positions, and then you can directly express your interest.
Step 6: Take a personality test/career test
This test provides guidance and direction for various career choices. Find out which professions match your personality by answering questions about your personality and areas of interest. You can use the result to explore new careers that you may not have known suited you.
Step 7: Follow up after the fair
After Virtual Career Days is over, it's important to follow up with the companies and individuals you met. Send a connection request on LinkedIn or a thank-you email to the company representatives, expressing your appreciation for the opportunity to connect, asking for additional information, or inquiring about the next steps if you're interested in continuing the conversation.
Participating in Virtual Career Days can be a rewarding and exciting experience for you as a student. By following these steps and being active and engaged, you will be able to take full advantage of the opportunities presented. Remember to be open, curious, and show your best self when interacting with companies and other students.
