Haven’t heard from the employer after applying for a job? How pushy can you be?

Job hunting can be both a nerve-wracking and exciting time. You submit applications, attend interviews, and wait for feedback, hoping to finally land that job. But sometimes, silence from an employer occurs, which can be really stressful when you’re eagerly awaiting a response within a promised timeframe.

Has the employer forgotten about me?

For many, silence from the employer becomes a source of worry and stress.

Thoughts swirl around in your head: "Did they forget about me?", "Was my performance good enough?", "Should I have done something differently?"

These questions can take a toll on your confidence, and in some cases, you might even start doubting whether you did well enough. But it’s important to remember that silence is not a reflection of you as a person or your skills.

There could be many different reasons why the employer hasn’t responded yet. Perhaps the recruitment process is taking longer than expected, or they have other commitments occupying much of their time between recruitments.

It could also be that they’ve received a large number of applications and haven’t been able to get back to everyone yet.

So how much should you allow yourself to be affected by the silence?

It’s important not to let the silence damage your self-esteem. Allowing yourself to feel frustrated and stressed in these situations is completely natural, but it’s also important to stay calm and handle the situation constructively.

If the interviewer set a timeframe that has passed, you can always reach out and ask when you can expect feedback. By showing your continued interest and engagement, you increase your chances of receiving a response soon. Another way to manage a wait that can sometimes feel endless is to focus on what you can control.

Keep applying for more jobs and work on networking. By keeping yourself busy and active, you can take the focus off waiting for a response. Finally, it’s important to remember that you deserve a workplace that values your time and engagement.

If an employer can’t provide you with the feedback you deserve, it might be a sign that it’s not the right place for you after all. Keep being active in your job search and remember that you deserve a workplace that appreciates and respects you.
